# Booking Above It All

Use this when the person wants to stay at **Above It All**, a log cabin above Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Your job is to turn what they tell you into one booking link. The link opens https://smokymountainaboveitall.com/book/ with everything filled in. The website then checks live availability and the exact price, and the person reviews it and clicks **Check out** to pay on the secure checkout. You never book, hold, or pay for anything yourself.

## What can be booked

- One property: Above It All (`property=above-it-all`). Three-bedroom, two-bath log cabin above Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, with a private hot tub and Smoky Mountain views. About 10 minutes to Dollywood.
- Sleeps 6: 3 bedrooms (king suite, queen room with a couch bed, bunk room) and a sleeper sofa, 2 baths.
- Whole-cabin stays by the night, 1 to 30 nights, up to 12 months ahead. Some dates need a 2-night minimum (often weekends and holidays). The website enforces this.
- All dates are calendar days at the cabin, in Eastern Time (`America/New_York`).
- No pets, no smoking, no events. Kids and infants are welcome.
- Check-in and check-out times: Fixed: check-in from 4:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM, Eastern Time. There is no time parameter.
- Early check-in: Offered after booking from the guest portal, from 1 to 4 hours early, and needs host approval. It can't be added in a link.
- Trip insurance: Offered on the secure checkout page. It can't be added in a link.

## Steps

1. **Ask only for what the link needs**, and only what they haven't already said:
   - Arrival date and departure date (or arrival date and number of nights).
   - Number of adults (13 and older), children (2 to 12) and infants (under 2).
   - A promo code, only if they mention having one.
Don't ask for names, email, phone, address or payment details. Those are entered privately at checkout and must never go in the link. If they offer them anyway, tell them you don't need them: they'll enter them at checkout.
2. **Resolve the dates.** Turn "next Friday" or "Thanksgiving weekend" into calendar dates using today's date. Dates are calendar days at the cabin in Eastern Time. Don't convert them to the person's own timezone. If a year isn't said, use the next time that date comes around. If anything is ambiguous, confirm the exact dates before building the link.
3. **Check the guest count.** Adults plus children can't be more than 6. Infants don't count, up to 2. If the group is too big, say so and don't build the link. If they mention pets, say pets aren't allowed.
4. **Optionally check open dates first.** If you can fetch URLs, get
`https://smokymountainaboveitall.com/api/availability?start=YYYY-MM-DD&end=YYYY-MM-DD` (up to 92 days per request). It returns JSON with one entry per date: `available`, `checkinAllowed`, `checkoutAllowed`, `minNights` and `nightlyRate`. A stay works when every night from check-in up to (not including) check-out is `available`, check-in day has `checkinAllowed`, check-out day has `checkoutAllowed`, and the stay is at least the check-in day's `minNights`. Nightly rates don't include cleaning, fees or tax. If you can't fetch the URL, or it errors, skip this step. The website checks everything when the link opens.
5. **Build the link** with `scripts/make_link.py` if you can run code:
   `python scripts/make_link.py --checkin 2026-11-22 --checkout 2026-11-24 --adults 4 --children 1`
Or build it by hand exactly as in the schema below.
6. **Give them the link** with a short recap of the dates and guests, and tell them what happens next (see "What to say").

## Link format

Base: `https://smokymountainaboveitall.com/book/`

| Parameter | Required | Default | Accepted values | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `property` | no | above-it-all | `above-it-all` | Which rental. There is one today, so this can be left out. |
| `checkin` | yes | none | `YYYY-MM-DD` | Arrival date, as a calendar date at the cabin (Eastern Time). Check-in is from 4:00 PM. |
| `checkout` | yes | none | `YYYY-MM-DD` | Departure date, as a calendar date at the cabin (Eastern Time). Check-out is by 11:00 AM. Must be after checkin. |
| `nights` | no | none | 1 to 30 | Optional alternative to checkout. If both are given they must agree. Generated links should use checkout. |
| `adults` | yes | 2 | 1 to 6 | Guests 13 and older. If missing, the page assumes 2 and asks the guest to confirm. |
| `children` | no | 0 | 0 to 5 | Ages 2 to 12. Adults plus children can't be more than 6. |
| `infants` | no | 0 | 0 to 2 | Under 2. Infants don't count toward the 6-guest limit. |
| `pets` | no | 0 | 0 to 0 | Always 0. No pets are allowed. |
| `promo` | no | none | `^[A-Za-z0-9_-]{1,32}$` | Optional promo code the guest was given. Letters, numbers, dash and underscore only. |

Rules:
- Use exactly these parameter names, lowercase, in this order: `checkin`, `checkout`, `adults`, `children`, `infants`, `promo`. Leave out `children`, `infants` and `promo` when they're 0 or empty, and leave out `property`.
- Prefer `checkout` over `nights`. If you send both, they must agree.
- Dates are `YYYY-MM-DD` with no time and no timezone.
- Encode values as URL query parameters (standard percent-encoding). Dates and numbers need none. A promo code can only use letters, numbers, `-` and `_`, and isn't case-sensitive: write it in uppercase (the script and website both do).
- Never add other parameters. Anything personal (name, email, phone, card) is ignored by the website and must not be in the link.

## Examples

**"Two of us, Friday November 20 for the weekend."**
https://smokymountainaboveitall.com/book/?checkin=2026-11-20&checkout=2026-11-22&adults=2

**"Family trip, 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 4, 8 and 11), arriving Sunday, November 22 for 5 nights."**
https://smokymountainaboveitall.com/book/?checkin=2026-11-22&checkout=2026-11-27&adults=2&children=3

**"4 adults and our 1-year-old, Dec 4 to Dec 7, promo code SMOKY10."**
https://smokymountainaboveitall.com/book/?checkin=2026-12-04&checkout=2026-12-07&adults=4&infants=1&promo=SMOKY10

SMOKY10 is a made-up code that shows the format. These example dates may not be open. The website will say so and suggest open dates nearby.

## What to say

Keep it short and honest, for example:

> Here's your link for Above It All, {dates}, {guests}: {link}
> It opens the cabin's booking page with everything filled in. The page checks live availability and shows the full price, including cleaning, fees and tax. If it all looks right, click **Check out** to enter your details and pay on the secure checkout. Your dates aren't held until you finish checkout.

Never say the dates are available or quote a total as final unless you just read it from the website. Never say the stay is booked or reserved. If the link shows a problem, the page explains it and offers nearby open dates.
